Default Tick Tick Tick Sound!

Whenever I get on the mustang I hear this tick tick tick sound coming from the engine.

It does it when it's cold and warm.

Any idea?

You might have a valve out of adjustment.

It sounds like it's coming from the left side (if that helps any).

Kinda hard to tell without hearing the sound, unless theres a pretty good description of it. Some people describe detonation / pinging as ticking. Could also be noisy lifters, valves, etc.

is it only when you accelerate? sounds like a header bolt backing out. With the car running and the hood open, gently (no loose clothing) see if you can tell where the noise is coming from. the top of the engine? the side? is it from under the car (TO bearing maybe?)

I believe it's coming from the side and yes it's more with acceleration.

That could be it.

I can record the sound if you want. I'll do it next time I drive it. It's suppose to rain tomorrow but we will see.

I can see that as a possiblilty. That's the problem with my friend's LT1..bolt actually snapped. But that's a pretty loud sound and sounds more like a rapping or tapping more than a ticking.

Exhaust leak, I guarantee it. Either a loose header bolt or a dead gasket. 10 minute fix either way.
