Installing Gauges
I was wondering how hard gauges were to put in your car, would i be able to do it or should i take to a performance shop and have them do it. I just want to learn how but i also want them to work right.

RE: Installing Gauges
a lot of it depends on what gauges you want and how comfortable you are doing it yourself. My gf bought me some gauges in oct. for my birthday and i still haven't put them in because it will cost close to $300 just to have them installed. To me it would be too hard to do myself, but i do not know your situation. I have heard that a water temp and oil temp gauges are the easiest, and i know a transmission temp gauge is probally the hardest(found that one out the hard way $$$)

RE: Installing Gauges
i have heard this, but i am not sure if it is true. I heard the oil pressure gauge will work with a t fitting on the existing pressure sensor, and just run new wires through the fire wall.
I have a tranee temp, oil temp, and oil pressure. I am having the oil gauges installed and the tranee one lighted for $200. For a performance shop to put in my tranee temp gauge by itself would be about another $200

Yea i have a friend that put gauges in his 96, he told me he would it for 100,but the shop i called told me 487. I got auto meter ultra lites, and ive heard all the fittings that come with it wont fit my car. Is that true? But thanks, and how do u like ur bbk cai, i ordered mine and might put it on this weekend.

i don't know why it wouldn't work, its a pretty standard molding, and it fits my 88. The bbk cai is the best imo. I think it doesn't make a big differnce performance wise, but it definately looks the best, and cleans up the engine bay nice. You'll be happy with it!

RE: Installing Gauges
Gauges are easier than you think.. just make sure you can get to where the runner lamp wire is (behind the switch on the top upper left of the dash) and splice the lights into that.. Then you just run a wire from your ignition (can be spliced from your fusebox) for switched 12v power to the gauges. Then, depending what gauge you're going just run a wire from the S on the back of the autometer gauge to whatever sensor your running for electrical. Mechanical is self explanitory, and just use a hole in the firewall that is near the throttle or clutch cable. use a rubber grommet then rtv it to insulate. Dont forget to run your ground wires too. Good luck
