?????? quad shocks
What is the purpose of quad shocks? I have heard if you have aftermarket control arms you dont need them. I have heard of people taking them off for wider tires. Would it be safe to take them off with stock control arms?

RE: ?????? quad shocks
Quad shocks reduce wheel hop in the vertical plane of axle travel (as opposed to side to side). Quad shocks can be removed for clearance of wheels larger than 275 up to 315. (In that range you will also need to massage the inner fender lip and may need to relocate brake lines. With aftermarket chomemoly control arms (both upper and lower) the ability of the axle to move uncontrolably is greatly reduced, however you can never have too much control over your rear axle, there are a lot of people who have aftermarket control arms and still keep the quad shocks for dampeners. For a 275 tire you can flip the quad shock over so the arm is bolted to the body and the shock resevoir is bolted closest to the axle. This allows the shock to be recessed into the rear of the rim in some cases. I would highly recommend leaving them on, unless you have a real need to remove them. They dont weigh that much, and they improve handling. JMO
