Can I just take these 5 bolts off & pull the head straight off? Or do I have to worry about some part shooting into my eyes?

you gotta take off the rockers and valve springs

 

WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!
all you got to do is loosen the rocker arms to take the tension off the valve springs and then you have another 5 bolts down low adjacent to the spark plugs. you didn't really think the head was held on with only 5 bolts did you? and you do know that the 5.0 uses torque to yield head bolts so once you remove them, you need to replace them with new ones! if you get the good ones from ARP, you can reuse them as often as you like, but stock ones are only good for one time usage!

I'm suprised they didn't fall apart anyway. I have horrible life luck, but in games my luck is really good. I wish I could transfer the game luck to life.

 

If he took the rocker arms and the springs off, and then pulled the head off?? you better check again pal, once you compress the springs and pull the retaining clips, there ain't nothing left to hold the valves in place, unless you have magical heads.
