Default Not Charging? (Need Help)

I was driving my 87 Mustang GT and all of a sudden the amp light came on and I noticed that my battery guauge was in the red, needless to say the car didn't start up once I turned it off.

I had my bro look at it, he found that the starter bolts were loose. He fixed that. He also replaced the alternator, but the car still doesn't hold a charge.

I have heard that these mustangs have had issues with holding a charge. He has checked all the wires. He is also going to look at the schematics.

Is there anything he or I should be looking for?

Here are a few ideas, make sure you load test the battery, could have a dead cell, check the voltage regulator for voltage output, third, check and make sure all your grounds and connections are clean, hooked up and tight, engine grounds and cables going to the battery.

sometimes i hear when you replace the alt you should replace the battery. sometimes it can be more then one single thing causing your problem.

if it's not holding a charge....it's the battery

car off, batt should be about 12.0-13.0 volts

test the battery while the car is running and should be putting out about 13.5-14 volts to show the alt is good

One of my brothers mechanic friends mentioned that as well. I will let him know.

We'll we fixed it!

The alternator we bought was also bad. My brother put in another one and it works.

Now to just change the plugs and wires.
