Default engine light/code problems

I know this is in the wrong section but the 2.3 forum is usually a lot slower and i want to get this figured out fast. The other night when i was driving my check engine light came on for 5 minutes then went away. Then last night it came back on for the whole 10 minute drive. This morning though it didnt come on. So at school i used the doohickey in my auto class to check the codes. My teachers a dumb*** so i had to figure out how to use it. I ran 2 tests with it the first test came up with no problems the second test came up with codes 998 and 224 then it said after 224 1,2,3, or 4 ckt failure. Does anyone know what these codes mean and if theyre serious. I havent noticed any problem with how my cars been running, other than the idle could be a bit smoother. I was low on tranny fluid but i topped that up today, would that do it?

my car is a 5.0 but came up with a ckt failure too.

scanned with the engine on
- code 11
- code 12 - cant control engine rpm when testing (even tho it was perfectly...i wasn ttouching the gas and it was reving)
- code 94 - CCC/SS4 CKT Fault/Thermactor Air - Inop

i looked up code 94 and it has something to do with the air pump

no idea what 11 and 12 mean

yah you need a new coil, 224 is an IDM code, fixable by replacing the coil, 998 is telling you that its a hard code, not sensor related.

ok well i toppe dup my tranny fluid and now when i run the tests i dont get code 998 anymore, so maybe that was th eproblem. but i still get code 224. Im not exactaly sure what the coil is .. haha i feel like an idiot but this is my first car and ive just started working on them. My auto teacher is a retard so i dont like to take his advice. he said the coil is the coil pack that my spark plugs connect to. Then he said if im not noticing any problems i should just ignore it and its probably the computer. and i havent really noticed anythign except today when i was driving 3 friends at lunch the spedometer sai di was doing 80/90 but im pretty sure i was doing maybe 60/70 tops. I have no clue what i should do.

well, the speedo isn't electronically controlled, so its not that. the IDM signal is your tachometer signal. faulty readings with cause slight popping or misfires, maybe even backfiring in bad situations. 224 actually refers to the whole signal in general, instead of left or right banks. your teacher might be right about the computer theory, but i'd start looking at the wiring from the coil(s) to the computer.
