lol shouldn't he just buy a used T-5 out of a V8 model then, instead of getting parts for the 4 cylinder one?

All you need to change is the Pilot bearring and the flywheel. If the trans is already bolted to the car and the clutch works then you dont need a bell or a clutch fork. The 4 cyl linkage wont work with the v8 stuff, The 4 cyl linkage is based off the old SROD style trans (like in my 82) and will NOT hook up to the V8 linkage because the ball at the end of the clutch cable wont go in the 4 cyl it is too big. and the 4 Cyl bell wont bolt onto a v8 period! and the 4 cyl t-5 is PLENTY strong to hadle as much as a v8 T-5 since the only difference is the Ratio for the first gear. The reason that people call them junk is because they dont put the right pilot bearring in it and it creates interal vibrations and gernades the trans. I have a 4 cyl t5 in my Notch and it hadles 400 hp no problem!

correct the 4 cylinder tranny is the same as the v8 tranny with the excepting of the gear ration in the first 3 gears...

Yeah i used 2 have an 87 hatch that i bought that the previous owner convertedfrom a 4 cylindertwo a builtcarb. V8. they left the 4 cylinder T-5 in it and was a definitly used andabused 4 cylinderT-5.they ran the tranny dry drove it hard and the second gear synchro. was shot. well when i got it i didn't have enough money 2 put the V8 T-5 in it and I did drive it hard [i know not the best idea] with the 4 cylinder T-5 and it always held up fine even with the built 302.
