Change of heart
I was planning on having Texas Hot Rods built a 427 for my 88GT while I'm gone, but I have finally reached the final conclusion that I do not want to do that. I realize that, in drag racing, engine parts break. It will be a lot easier on me to just buy another 302 that I can put in if something breaks than it will be if it has a custom set of motor mounts to hold in a 427. Plus, it's a lot cheaper to build a 302! I can have 2 engines, one in the car, and one ready to go into the car at a moments notice. Any thoughts on what I might want to do? I've heard people talking about using a dart blockas a starting point, but I'm new to the Mustang world, so I don't really know about them... what are they, and are they worth it?

dart block is a very good place to start also expensive place to start you could always build a 351 into a 408 stroker or what ever you want uses the same motor mounts and trans bolt pattern

Instead of spending eleventy million dollars on a tiny 302 block, how about a bored and stroked 351? It will cost the same, if not less. Not to mention power, bottom end torque, and you'll still handle up to 600-ish hp without a problem. 408 ftw!

Money isn't really that big of an issue. I'm sending to car to THR anyway to get repainted, a full roll cage, rear end, and suspension work done. I'll be raking in some pretty good money while I'm in Iraq. I just wanted to make sure that whatever engine option I go with, I can swap it out for the 302 over a weekend in my driveway with the basic tools that I have without running into issues with custom fits.

A 347 would be cheaper becuase you don't have to get any special accessory brackets, headers, flyhweel, etc...
Plus, most people want to go with a 351 roller block which are becoming hard to find.
