the guy i bought it from said he didn't know, he thought it was 8.5:1 but wasn't sure, and i thought that was kind of low to be honest.

A dyno tune is no waste at all, it would make your car run better. And $300 to get a baseline is a complete rip off.

+1 If your getting it tuned for 300 dollars your getting a slammin deal but if they are charging you $300 dollars just to do a few passes tell them to shove it up their ****! You should be able to get a few runs in for like a hundred bucks.

WhatEdelbrock Heads (Performer Or Performer RPM) ?
What Cam/ Duration @0.050/ Lift ?
What Size Header Tubes ?
What Compression ?
All these things have a big part of how much power you will make.

Most 331 stroker kits ive seen have a 10.5.1 compression ratiowith 58cc heads, Which will have a 10.1.1 compression ratio with 60cc heads on a standard deck height 302 with a.041" gasket thickness.

I made 353 rwhp in my 92 LX with a stock block 306 with 11.5.1 compression, AFR 185cc Heads, Trickflow R Intake, Lunati 560/ 576 Lift Cam, 75mm TB, 76mm MAF, 1 5/8" Longtubes and 93 Octane with it running a little lean. They then upped the fuel pressure from 38 to 45 and made 335 RWHP/ 315 RWTQ with a perfect 12.5 A/F. I did rev it to 7000 RPM just so you know

You should be at least 330 if it runs right good. The intake you have is made for torque than horsepower. Throw some higher RPM parts on there, rev it to the moon and you'll love.

you made 18 less rwhp with a better a/f ratio?
