Default Shopping 4 a Notch

I traded in my 99 on a truck a few months back, but have decided to blow my tax refund on another Pony...Being as I only have experience with the 2V cars I am not really hip to what works the best on the pushrod motors. My budget for the car will be around 5-6K, and I will have $400-$500 a month to buy parts for it, or as much as my other addictions will allow
So I have been looking at some rigs for sale in CA, AZ and NV....and there are some nice cars that already have alot of work done to them. With the exception of how much abuse has been put on the car witch is the better buy?

1. the typical motor built mustang....Heads, Intake, E-303 cam, Headers ect.
or
2. the typical blower built mustang....Vortech or Paxton running 6-10psi

these are 2 most popular set ups I have run across while looking at cars on E-bay, Autotrader & Yahoo autos
I will buy a virgin notchback if I can find one that carries the right price tag....but I have not seen too many that fit that description. My goal is a mid 12 second car on drag radials that I can take out on the weekends and hit up the test N tunes every now and again.

Thanks for the info!

what you might want to do is save for another month or 2 and buy a nice notch with the power adder

So the blown cars are the way to go? I noticed the clean ones with some nice parts run around $8k or so......I wouldn't mind spending that much but wouldn't want to spend that much on a car that that has 300 passes @ the track if you know what I mean

I have an 80 4 eye notch that I may be looking to get rid of. Has a 2.3L Turbo in it, carbed of course, and it runs and drives but its been sitting a while. No rot or rust on it it was garaged for 10 years. Needs some TLC but we would prob be lookin to sell it for somewhere around 800-1000 if your interested.

I would get an HCI car, and if its not enough power for you just throw a blower on top of that. You wouldnt really have to get into the motor at all.

=o that block and internals in that 90 notch can handle 700hp easy,
it has like 15 runs of 25psi and that was just the motor break-in
