My T-5 was rebuilt about 500 miles ago and now 5th gear is making a slight whining noise like the syncro is going bad. I have never slammed gears or really even gased on the car since the rebuild. The tranny is out of the car right now because of an engine swap so I want to get this fixed before I stick it back in. If I used some kind of synthetic fluid, would this solve my problem or do I need to take it to a tranny shop? I have always done all my own work but I have never rebuilt a tranny. How hard would it be for a gear head like me to tackle this job and where would I find a manual showing me how to do this?

 

gotta have some special snap ring pliers, the syno gears only make
going into that gear easy, they are brass
i have done 2-3 not that hard and can be done, there are manual out there for t 5 rebuilds, whining is usally some gear problems or bearing maybe going away, fluid clean ?
the more expensive fluids will make them shift better

 

mine makes noise, i think they all do, your not gonna get absolutely NO nosie from them, unless im wrong, there not an auto, there gonna have some sound to em. hell i have no shift **** right now, broke off, and im driving w/o the boot, think of how i feel, hear everything.......i think my flywheel wasnt resurfaced when the dumbass put the new clutch in.....what kind of noise would that make anyone?

Before I pulled it, I drained the fluid and it looked new. I know they all make noise but 5th gear is louder than the rest. It's not real loud just enough to annoy me.
