Anybody know what some visual differences are with a 8.8 rear end and a stock rear off a 2.3L. Im lookin at buying the rear off of a guys 2.3 he's claiming its an 8.8 and doesn't know what gears are in it (theres no tag) Hes not askin much or i wouldn't bother. I just need to know how to tell if it is an 8.8

the 7.5" came with the 2.3L which is smaller in size then an 8.8

yeah not gunna be na 8.8 i dont think, and if not would you still really want it?

 

2.3's never came with 8.8's, but the 7.5 looks more like an oval with flat top and bottom. (_) -ish as opposed to a more round shape (couldn't get the top on that one..)

thanks for the responce, im aware they didn't come stock with an 8.8, was changed somewhere along the line, i would asume it would still bolt up to everything.

Im in the middle of doin a swap not sure what i'll be runnin at the track.

 

The 8.8 rearends came with the quad shock brackets to where the 7.5's did not thats one way u can tell them apart

 

I have a 1993 lx 5.0 and it looks more oval like. would these mean I have a 7.5 rearend in it. Notch style
