i drove this 87 lx 5 0, and it was stock, the guy said.... well anyways when you punch the gas, the tach shoots up to like 5k right away, and on my 88gt, it dont climb as fast... my timing is at 14 so that couldnt be a cause... any ideas? i noticed my rpms' go up a little quicker since i put a throttlebody and intake on... but i would think it would rev faster than it does...... also my clutch catches high off floor, could this be worn clutch? maybe? also... when you remove the air sliencer, do you unplug it from the plug near the fuel rail, or do you leave it plugged in and just hanging??/ thanks alot guys

RE: mix of ?'s
the air sliencer is in the fender well, there is a vacc line, then there is a sensor or something, that has a wire that runs to the "fuel rail area" like right where the sensor for the computer plugs in... know what i mean?

its just in you air box and looks like a little tube and it just goes from your air box through your fender and it just keep the noise down from you air intake system.Just a little peice of rubber that is restrictive

you have to ask yourself would the ring and pinion gears be original,... prolly not and they probably replaced them with something with a little more torque and less top speed, or it could be that your tps is faulty set it to .98v and test it at wide open throttle to be sure its at 4.0v or above and less than 5.0v...

RE: mix of ?'s
i got 3.73's and the tps is at .98 and goes to about 4.14 ....... then maybe it wasnt the air silencer... but theres a switch , and its on the metal water pipes going over the intake, well where that wire connects, theres another connection, and right now i have this little valve looking thing pluged into it, but its just laying there doing nothing, it has a place for a vacc line to go in, and it has an out also..... any ideas? looking at my shop manual it MIGHT be called the canister purge solenoid, whats it do?
