Default Simple turbo question

So my friend is a turbo junkie, he know em inside and out and all around. He puts em on the wrong cars tho ( civics ) I have 100% respect for him because his is about making actual horsepower and not ricing out his car. Anywho....I mentioned the idea of doing a homemade turbo setup on my car and he was all for helpin me out.

So basically my question is what would be a good size turbo to run on a 5.0 ?

If i can slowly but surely peice together everything i need for a decent price then i might just consider it. Right now its unreasonable because of the simple fact that i'm not done with my year long HCI swap, haha.

You need two for all that exhaust. Or one of those turbos that come of those tractors.

I'll be happy with just 1 turbo

Yea, 1 will do it for me. If im gonna do this, its gonna be the cheapest route possible. And 1 is plenty.

So a turbo from a 600 cat will be good ?

There any cars that i can go to a junkyard and steal a turbo off ? Atleast any cars that had a factory turbo that is decently large and not pushin a 2.4 in a old dodge van ?

If your talking about using a brand new Turbo the the Master Power 70or as most refer to it the MP 70seems to be the hot ticket these days for the single street set ups. Now turbos aren't really a one size fits all propostition, but the hot ticket for single turbo street 5.0'sseems to be the Master Power 70. I wont get into things like compressor maps and housing sizes here cuz its way too much info, but if your thinkin of doing your own turbo setup definately checkout this site http://www.turbomustangs.com/turbomain.php. One word of warning do NOT buy a new turbo off of ebay, I know the prices are tempting butthey are cheap chinese knockoffs and most fail within months after you install them.

well if u do the junk yard turbos you'll have to go the twin turbo rought, and yea cars like talons, turbo elipse (both have t3's), are great to get turbos off of but you'll have to use 2..... i'm getting off here so i'll cut this short and cut the the chase...

if u do 2 turbos get t-3's or t-35's the t-3 was built for a 2.4L car and the t-35 was built for a 2.6 (i believe) so if u want slightly more low end and not as much top end get the t3's if u want slightly less low end and a little more top end get the t-35
if u do single turbo get a t-76 this will be slightly more top end than the 2 t-35's

either of the 2 twin set ups will be good for 1200 HP and the single t-76 will be good for about 1300 hp

hp ratings are close not exact and are based off of other websites ratings

If your talkin junkyard turbos Id go with a twin setup like the one Im planning. Get a pair of Holset HX35W turbos. They came on the Dodge pickup with the 5.9 cummins diesel and they are good to about 35psi boost
