Default T-5 Problem

I have a 90 foxbody with a 5.0 anda Borg Warner T-5, I am not sure if it is a WC or not because the ID tag is not on the transmission. It is not the original motor. The cast in numbers under the shifter are 13-52-066-919 but no one seems to know how to identify it by that.

I drove the car yesterday and while in gear and moving, the trans would make grinding noises. The transmission has been fine up to this point and has not seen any abuse. There is a small leak from the rear seal of the trans, could it be that it is low fluid?

I need to know how to drain the fluid that's in it and where to add new and how to replace that rear seal. I could not find a drain plug, so either I am blind or there's some trick I don't know.

The drain and fill plugs are on the side of the tranny, they have a square hole that a 3/8" drive ratchet will fit into. To replace the rear seal you need to remove the driveshaft and pop the old seal out and put the new one in. Make sure you don't bend it up tapping it back in. I would guess that you're low on fluid.

drain and fill are both on the pass side... use a 3/8 extention to remove them.
the grinding noise in gear? explain it a little better... every gear, just some? how loud? constant/random?
use atf a little under 3qts... just fill it to the bottom of the fill hole, or fill it thru the shifter, and then take out the fill plug to let the excess drain out.

as for the seal, gonna have to take out the driveshaft, and remove/replace that... how bad is it leaking?

Ok, I drained the fluid, it was nowhere near 3 qts worth of fluid. However, there I only saw one 3/8 plug on the passenger side. Is the fill plug higher than the drain plug?

As for the grinding, I only got it in 1st and 2nd and the grinding was a loud, but random grinding noise that lasted maybe a second.

The seal wasn't leaking badly, just alwasy had a drop of fluid on it. It's been on my list of things to do. This car has been one huge headache. So far I've done headgaskets, radiator, hoses, e-brake cable and I still have a lot left.

The fill plug is above the drain plug
