Default rear end?

so i bought a 83 gt the other day and drove it to the house i noticed a couple of things... there is a whine that sounds like it is coming from the rear end what would be my best course of action to check on and fix this.

Also at about 65 mph there is a slight vibration from the rear of the car could this be coming from my drive shave which has multiple dents in it or is it more than likely associated with the rear end?

thanks in advance for the help

A whine could be a bad wheel bearing, differential bearing or misaligned gears or even the tires.

Since your 83 has a 7.5 I wouldnt bother fixing it. Instead Id just swap in an '86 or later 8.8. Its a better rearend.

The vibration could very well be from the dented driveshaft or the U joints might be worn out.
Try to find a good driveshaft and put new U joints on it and see if the vibration goes away.

Theres really no reason for a 9". A build 8.8 can be build to handle TONS of power... way more than a street car will ever need anyway. Save the cash and get yourself a 8.8 w/ gears already installed. You can usually get already geared rears for $300-400 dollars and sometimes cheaper if you find a good deal.

there really is no reason to get the 9" an 8.8 can handle ALOT of power you would be better off getting the 8.8 unless you can find a 9" for real cheap

+1 Check forums, local newspaper listings, ebay, craigslist, etc. Check out people who are parting out their cars, etc.
