Do I really need cats? I mean I love the world and everything, but I don't get checked for emissions, so the cats I don't need. I just need the throaty sound...

If you want a really good sound, bottom line is your going to have to spend money, I spent 1400 on my exhaust, and it was damn worth it, nobody's mustang sounds like mine and everyone loves it. And wait until the engine work. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. Flows sound Tinny ( as someone else put it ) in my opinion. Not a fan of flow really. I did dynomax's on my friends mach 1, and I wasnt that impressed. Just sounded like flows.

I know this is a little more expensive, but a friend of mine has Magnaflows on his stang and they sound great. I am thinking about going with either Magnaflows or Bassani for my stang. I currently have Flowmaster 40 series on it now. I still have alot of thinking to do on this subject.

BBk sells some good Headers, H pipe, and cat-backs. I think Jegs or Summit might have some.

glass packs are for hillbillies. they sound like *** unless you like raspy

magnaflow maybe the best flowing but they sound like turbo mufflers

if money is tight, I would go first with a set of equal length shorty headers and an off road H-pipe from somebody like MAC. then save up some more dough and go for a cat back exhaust after that. the stock headers are very restrictive and should be the first thing you get rid of when upgrading the exhaust side of things IMO.
