Default shift at what RPM

what rpm do you all shift on to get the most of the gears... i run 1-D-1-D on the 1/4 mile.... shift from 1st to drive at 5-5500 rpm, then quickly shift back to 1st do the same and then dont shift to O/D I just finish on drive...

if you have a 5.0 you don't want to take it all the way to red line. they stop making power around 5200 rpm so you will want to shift once you hit that range.

edit: no 4.6's here!!

maybe its just me, but wouldnt putting it in o/d basically be the same and flooring it for a 1/4mile race AND save you from blowing your tranny/motor?

no it wouldn't because it wouldn't take full advantage of each gear. it would shift to early, this is why he was slamming through his auto through the 1/4 mile.
