just purchased an 88 GT project car. the battery isnt the best and has been run down a few to many times but i will be replacing it this weekend but my problem is when i jump it off it will idle up and then down and cut off if you dont give it gas for a minute or so. then it will idle up and almost cut off for about a minute then smooth out and idle fine. it takes off fine until you punch it and then seems like it drops six cylinders and looses all power and sputters and backfires, but if you ease on the gas and drive normal its smoothe as silk. im pretty mechanical but my weakness is diagnosis. i may be wrong but im thinking that since its speed density and someone just took out the air filter box and slapped on a cone filter that may be a problem, and also theres a sensor on the bottom of the ar intake tube that i cant find the plug to that i also believe may be the problem. the previous owner "said" he checked the fuel pressure and t was ok and thought it needed plugs so i changed em and no difference. any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

Mabey tps. Im not shure if fords have a idle air valve like gms, i know the old 300 strait sixes in trucks did. prolly tps if i have learned correctly the computer reads that to adjust the timeing. I could be wrong im new to stangs also.

Also i have sd. someone put a sewer pipe intake with a cone on it. But runs perfect.

Is that a maf? Mine dont have that lol. Looks like it realy is hmm. Wierd mabey they started the conversion and never finished.
