Car Wont Run Please Help
Hello guys. My buddy just picked up a 1990 GT that is in pretty good shape, mostly stock. Was hoping someone could help me with a carfax
VIN: 1FACP42E0LF189040
Also when he starts it up the car wants to die, he has to give it enough gas to idle for a few moments and then it's fine..., this just started happening today. Where's first place to check? Fuel filter? Where is fuel filter on these cars? (sorry for dumb question, i'm new to the 5.0s as well... my filter on my neon was in the gas tank..) Thanks alot.

seems like a pretty low mile car lucky find
Thanks anyone have any ideas on the problem mentioned above. He just mentioned yesterday that it was sputtering a bit, then backfired and then went off fine.... It's just when he first starts it up, and not only when it's cold but also in 50-65 degree weather as well..
was this CarFax or another? Doesn't show how many owners, or any wrecks. He states the passenger side door appears to have been painted with spray paint, but no apparent "fixed dent" .... he assumed it was hit on the passenger side and fixed... but he hasn't sanded it down to see if there's any repair work done..
The idle problem could be a ton of different things. I personally had the same problem and solved it by adjusting the TPS. The fuel filter is behind the gas tank. If you look behind the bumper you should be able to see it. Very easy to change and I would do so on a new to me car anyway.
so apparently this problem was ONLY happening at startup. after it ran a bit, it could be turned off then started again and it worked fine. today he was driving home and stopped at a stoplight and when he stopped it died and wouldn't start again. he said that while he was trying to start it and had the gas down it started making a thumping noise (kind of like a backfire he said) and it wouldn't start. Some people helped him push it and then it ended up finally starting and it ran fine. It has new plugs and wires (NGK and MSD) and he just replaced the fuel filter. He hasn't had a change to mess with the TPS as mentioned but will this weekend if nothing new comes up... Any ideas if a TPS would make it do what it did today.
