The motor mounts are still sitting in the brackets (attached to the frame), so the engine isn't going to move forward until it comes up at least two inches.

There are also two bolts at the very base of the transmission that are smaller than the rest. They're easy to miss. The motor mounts aren't immediately obvious either. They point upward into the block and can't be seen from above.

One thing I did that helped everything come loose was raise the transmission with a jack. After that, it was simply a matter of hoisting the engine up just a little until I could slide it foreward away from the trans.

if your pulling the tranny too then the answer is nothing. (do you have the tranny mounts unbolted?)

im not pulling the tranny too. i know i should have but i figured that out today when i already unbolted everything. i think at the stage i am now it would be easier to finish unhooking the transmission. i just want to make sure i dont screw anything up. i was told there is a plate on the transmission usually where the inspection sticker is and once thats off you can unbolt the clutch and the pressure plate. is this true? what else do i need to unbolt

the pressure plate bolts to the flywheel but that should come out with the motor. are you up above the motor mounts? by jacking up and getting above the mounts are you binding up the tranny to motor making it stick?

Not super-bad. The bolts you should have undone were closer to the motor, but this isn't catastrophic. It just means you have to remove a little more before you can put the engine on the stand.
