Default sn95 convertible top problem

lately i have been having trouble getting my top to latch.
when i go to close the top, it wont close enough to lock it down. sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt.
i tried putting it up and down a few times before i just put the car cover over it for the night.
anyone have the same problem?
how can i fix that?

Not really sure what you mean. How large of a gap do you have?

Usually, I just hold the button until tho tops is as far as it's going to go. Then I grab the metal handle and pull down on it with one hand while latching it with the other.

Is it not even getting far enough to do that? What happens when you pull on it by hand? Does it have trouble going up or down or does it sound normal?

theres about 2 inches of gap. maybe a little less.
i usually do what you do, but it wont come close enough to even do that.
when i pull it by hand it doesnt go any farther. theres no unusual sounds either.

Any chance something fell or moved near the back or near the motor that is jamming it or preventing it from extending all the way? Or any chance the motor just plain doesn't have enough fluid in it anymore and needs a refill? It should be fairly easy to check. You can easily remove the back seat and get a good look at the pump.

If you never did it before, you remove the lower part of the seat by depressing two little white buttons just under the front of the rear seat. Once that is removed, you will see where you have to unbolt the upright section.

You can do it from the trunk instead, but it's not as easy to get to (in my opinion.) That's what I'd check though. I'd look t see if something is jammed or broken, and I'd check teh fluid level of the motor.
