Default piston rings

i just ordered new piston rings for my car 1/16 - 1/16 - 3/16 and when i went to put them on they didnt want to go all the way in it felt like it was binding up in spots..the only part that actually fit was the ends where the gap is..i thought i got the wrong ones so i ordered the only other size that they had which is 5/64 - 5/64 - 3/16 and i got those today and they are way too big and i dont know what to do now was i doing something wrong when i was doing it the first time?

You have to file piston rings for correct fitment.

only if he got file fit rings, but even then he would just have too small of gaps of the ends would hit when he tried to install which doesnt sound like the problem.

didnt you pistons say which size grooves they had? cant you measure?

when i orderd the 1/16th ones i didnt have the engine torn down yet and i wanted then so when i striped it i could put them in to put it together...i know i have to file the ends to make it the right gap ..its not fiting correctly in the grove, do i have to file down around the ring? i thought it was just the ends?

should be just the ends. are you using old pistons? is there gunk in the grooves? they have to be CLEAN!!!!!!! or you'll run into trouble

There were some 5.0's built that used a METRIC ring set.
Forget the size (3.5mm?) but like someone said, you file the ends only if you got a file fit set.......
