Default gear size question

im lookin to get new gears soon 3.73s and i was just wondering if you had an idea of was size i have in my car now. i have a 90 gt 5sp with a 8.8 rear end, but my speedo if 10mph slow (55=65) thanks for any help

most likely 2.73 for 5 speed and I think 3.08 on auto

look on the tag on the rear end housing...it will tell you what gears are in it...unless some 1 put new gears in...with it being 10mph off u have larger gears than stock apparently...im not sure if stock is 2.73 or 3.27 or 3.55 with yours...chances are you either have 3.27, 3.55 or 3.73's LOL that narrows it down

well im pretty sure there bigger than stock bc the speedo is slower than what i am really doing

i'm pretty sure that the 2.73 were for auto and 3.08 for stick seeing as i changed mine out already and if you went to numericaly higher gears then you speedo would read faster than what your actually doing i.e. 65=55 assuming you have correct tire size. Of course that changes when you put on taller rear tires

o it runs great at the first 3 grears but then its a little slugish at 4500rpm 1st 40mph 2nd 75 3rd 90ish and then it gains speed slow thats why i need new gears

Sounds like 2.73's to me. That's about where mine was at when I had them.

Isn't there a rougth way to tell by RPM at 80

I remember seeing like 2500 RPM at 80 = 3.55

I will have to find the link.
