Yeah, it's a bad idea. Hurts your gas mileage as well, cause you're running in cold-start mode. Don't ask me how I know, lol.

barn is right, it will stay in warm up mode forever, and even run richer, that means more gas, and more replacing the plugs!!!

it wasnt my idea...... ive seen other people do it and i wanted to know what u guys thought about it.... if i wanted to do it i would say im takin my thermostat out tonight, do you think itll cool better

It's the exact opposite of what you said, the thermostat only lets hot water from the engine to pass to the radiator to be cooled.
If the waters is not hot enough to open the thermostat it is recirculated in the engine until it is hot enough to open the thermostat, then it goes through the radiator where it's cooled and sent back to the engine.

I used to work for a radiator manufacturer and did lots of lab testing on this subject.

how about a 195? my 180 seems to click loudly and you can feel the hose pulse w/ the clicks (guessing its sticking open and closed) is 195 a tad to warm w/ alum heads in southern heat?
