As for the engine swap statement, dont bother with the 351, what advantage you had because of weight will be taken away from that heavy *** brick you wanna put in there.
heavy brick?!?!? it is only 75 pounds more....and the amount of power you can make out of them with a simple h/c/i swap is well worth it

IMO, unless the 351 is REALLY built or stroked out to a 427, f..k it. And in a '79 it would make the car really unbalanced. The 79-82 models are different than 83-93 models. Thats why they weigh over 800 lbs. less than 83-93 models. But what about all the corresponding stuff you gotta use, cost wise its not worth it IMO. The flat tappet 302 in there is very capable of putting out some really nice #'s, coupled witha really light chassis, thats a potent combination. Like I said in my post I beat a mildly built 351 capri, and I was using all factory pieces except for my cam, carb, and H-pipe. Granted the intake, heads and headers we're all from an '85 GT, but this guy had better heads full length headers 2.5" pipes, drag shocks springs and 4.10 gear. He got all the way into 4th gear when all I did was a 1-2 shift. And like I said I beat him by a fender every race. We raced from a 30mph roll and from a dead stop a couple times. He thought I had an auto, it was just that my clutch was slippin a bit[8D].

Was that Capri a heavier post-'83 model though? Either way, a 351 with aluminum heads will weigh pretty much the same as a stock 302, why wouldn't it be a good idea?

ya they are light but you dont have to stroke a 351 to make some serious horsepower, it think r.barn had 475 hp with standard bore....a 302 isnt going to push those kind of numbers. and that guys combo prolly wasnt very good from what u said he only had heads on the motor, no cam or intake, they are made for torque not hp from the factory, no one will make tons of power with a 351 windsor if they dont do the whole h/c/i swap

so i am not saying a 302 will not make decent power, but simply stated the 351 will make tons more with the right top end combo (no replacement for displacement.....im not opposed to a stroker either )

i picked up the four eye yesterday and its still in good condition, maybe a nice touch uppaint job and rims and tires will help it out. i have another tread out on "what to do with a 351". that will show what some of my plans are.
