Valves aren't adjusted correctly. Readjust the valves. They are probably too loose

Did you get matching valve springs? Sounds like it could be valve float, do you hear any metallic type rattling or banging at around 5,500?

I dunno if that head can take much lift. How big is that cam. I'm surprised you haven't bent a pushrod. It takes more than just valve springs for a head to handle high lift. There is machining involved for clearance. Definitely float though. If the heads can take the lift then I think you need to readjust the valves. That could be causing the float.

Trying to use a stock ECU with a big cam? Probably running lean, preventing upper rpms. May have spark issues.

Well it was for a 289 the guy said it would work fine but we later found out that we had to change the firing order and then somebody on here said the fuel injectors wouldn't be working right

Haha. Hell ya the 289 and late model 5.0 have different firing orders. It's like a chevy 4 7 swap. The injectors are off. You are going to have to compare both firing orders and swith the injector connectors for the cylinders that switched in firing order.
