Ontop of my roof, paint started chipping and it just got bigger and bigger. Well now its turning into rust and stuff and i'm wondering wahts best to get the rust off before its too late. Do i need to sand it? or is there some kind of liquid form that i can just rub on ?

sand it, there can be rust under the paint in the surounding area. there is a chemical called oxisolov but i would not recomend it unless you are doing a complete paint job as it will harm surounding paint.

sand it good down to bare metal and feather the edges out into the area around it where the paint is still good, then put some good primer paint on it for a short term fix. long term fix is to get the whole top painted by a pro.

Just use some really rough sandpaper, i had rust that i got rid of, just be prepared, it hurts your car for a min, but its for the best of it.

I had a bunch of surface rust that I had to get rid off a while ago. If you follow everyones good advice and sand it off right away with some really rough sand paper almost right down to the metal then put on some rust eater, then primer, then sand with a softer sandpaper, then paint, then wet sand and finally a nice coat of cutwax, you should be good to go.That's only if you want to be really meticulous about it. No mustang deserves rust!

a disk sander that fits into a power drill will work good and get the black oxide paper made for sanding metal. check with the guy at the paint store where you get the paper about which grits to use for the purpose you propose and he can help you.
