Default Mileage question

My car seems to be getting seriously great gas mileage, and though I hate to look a gift horse in the mouth, I figured I'd ask if this was a unique thing or not.

Here's the setup:

5.0 5-speed GT w/power everything and sunroof (heavy)
Couple of subs (more weight)
Stock H/C/I
Stock 2.73s
Stock tire diameter
1 5/8" CAM unequal length headers
Full pypes exhaust
Off-Road X-pipe (w/new O2s)
SN95 70mm MAF
Deleted air silencer
Autolite 24 plugs
FRPP 9mm wires
180 Degree thermostat
FRPP B Springs
Prothane mounts (like it matters)
Thermactor ports plugged in the heads and exhaust, pump is still there; plumbing is gone.

I think that pretty much sums it up...

With the cruise set at 62 (country highway) for about 130 miles and then 20 in town beating it all I wanted, it got 27 mpg.

With the cruise set at 77 for for 180 miles and 60 of city (again, beating it) it got 22.

The car runs fine and pulls hard. If you shift 3rd "firmly" it will bark hard. I haven't touched the timing and I run 87 in it. No knock, no ping, nothing.

I just can't believe 27mpg... Even with stock gears and cruising at 62mph... That's better than my girlfriend's PT Cruiser and close to my 4 cyl S-10.

So... is this unusual?

in my 87 LX with 300K on my original motor 5sp 2:73 gears using the AC between phoenix and tucson running 80mph+ I can average anywhere from 19 - 21mpg, no AC I can get as high as 23mpg so 27 does sound high but who knows. With fuel $3+ a gallon don't look sweat it!

That's not unusual for highway miles. 22 in the city is damn good though...I do all city driving and I get about 17mpg.

Before the mods above (with a RUSTY exhaust that was blowing stuff every way but smooth) it was getting about 19 in mixed driving at 80+ and then city.. So 27 seemed FREAKISH to me.. I'm sure the 62mph helped.

So... 22 at typical highway speed is common..

Thanks guys!

Very nice, your car stock though is rated for 25 mpg in the open, but having that milage in the city and highway combined is great. You're ratedfor 18 mpg in the city.Might have something to do with the cruise?

Yeah.. Maybe? I had the stereo pretty loud for most of the trip and the volt meter was bobbing like nuts (need to upgrade the alt next), so I would guess the additional drag on the alt would have negated any benefit from the cruise control. Who knows?

I didn't buy this car with the intention of getting any sort of real mileage with it, but I'll be damned if I'm not happy about it. Even if I under-filled the tank by a full gallon of gas and got a false reading it still got 24...

I get 28 in my formula. Thats with the .5 o/d of course. Although I have .7 more liters.

27 mpg for a 5-spd is impressive. Perfect timing to get good mileage, man.
