I was attempting to jumpstart my '86 and when I was cranking it over, a lght smoke that smelled of burning plastic wafted through the passenger side vents. I immedietly stopped trying to start it and bailed out, then killed the durango, which was supplying the power and disconnected the jumper cables. is my car on fire? what could be burning??? is it the starter?!?! please help, I am in a panic...

RE: FIRE?!?!?!?!
Are there flames coming out of it? If so then it's on fire...call 911.
If there are no flames, then it's probably NOT on fire. I'm no expert but in my experience, I find that flames are usually a good sign that you may have a fire.

RE: FIRE?!?!?!?!
I personaly would just take the batt out of something and put it in it. If you connect the new batt and smokes kill it bad wires. It it dont happen again then mabey it was burning off dust on the wires or something else.
