Default AC problems

My air conditioner is not cooling as well as it did last summer. It is cooling, but the compressor is cycling on and off every 2 seconds and the air is not as cold as it used to be. Could low refrigerant cause this issue, or does it sound like the compressor is screwed? Thanks in advance for any input.

You may just be low on freon, if so the , the low pressure switch will cycle the compressor off. If it is cycling, it should be good. Just put a can or two in and see what happens. If you have the converison to 134a, you can do it yourself, just stay on the low pressure side, the high pressure port could burst a can and cause injury.
