well porting makes a huge difference if you do it right. for instance look at the stock lower intake manifold. the first 2 runners (cylinder 1 and 5) flow very badly compared to the other 6. just removing the right amount of material on the right spot can get you 20 or 25 more CFM of airflow to the front cylinders. aftermarket manifolds IMO dont need porting or if they did you wouldnt notice a huge difference unless your making 500 HP. a track heat trickflow manifold that is ported will not add much more power to a mustang making 290-300 HP but it would add a big power difference to a mustang making 500-550 HP.
I have a stock upper and lower that someone ported 5mm over.As soon as I put it on I noticed the diffrence right away.There was a pretty big diffrence.
on the lower do the ports. gasket matching helps out alot. for example gt40 lower[cobra,explorer,gt40..samelower] has 3/16 of extra metal on it. thats just for gasket matching. and yes i did my lower thats how i came up with that answer.
