no the bolt is in the other side of the diff by the drive shaft you have to look for it. its on the drivers side of the diff. i think the diff calls for just 80-90 gear oil but i put motorcraft 90-140 synthetic in mine but itsvery expensive and the only reason i did that is because i get it for free through work

I still dont get how you empty it though....from my understanding when you unbolt the cover the oil will just pour out...is the correct?

Also the bolt is on the other side of the diff...on the outside

and what about using 85-140 royal purple?

how many quarts does it take?

So when right when i unbolt the cover the fluid will just pour out?

Whats holding the fluid?

How do you refill it?

What do you pour the fluid into?

Sorry ive never taken one of these apart
Yes, the fluid drains right out from the cover so have a pan handy. My owners manual says 1.8 liters. Once its done draining remove the cover. Clean ALL of the old gasket or sealant off the axle and cover. Lay a continuous bead of sealant around the axle but keep it out of the thread holes. You can put the cover on and refill the axle right away if you want. The bolts should be tight but dont go too tight. You dont need a torque wrench. There is a plug on the front side of the axle on the drivers side. It can be a real bear to get to and loosen if you dont have the car up high enough. Its a square shaped hole in the plug (mine is anyway), i dont remember the size. You can use 80 or 90 weight gear oil. Youll need a pump of some kind to refill the fluid. Mine was tough to do so i had some spillage. Dont freak, just let the extra drain and put the plug back in.

It will take some time but a vacuum pump (like a one man brake beleeder) should make life a bit easier for ya. Just fill a jar/can with fluid and friction modifier and use a hose to fill the axle.

yes that bolt/plug is on the outside of the diff. its on the drivers side near the driveshaft. yes you can use that royal purple if you want nothing wrong with that. you will deff need some kind of pump. it basically would be something similar to the bottles of hand soap one of those pumps with a long hose on it.

I took an easy way out and removed the old fluid with a suction gun throughtthe fill hole. Must have got most of it out because it took 2 quarts royal purple 75-90 to fill it up. I had bought the fel-pro gasket then decided since it isnt leaking a wont mess with it. i gues it not the right way to do it but it works, and is a lot quicker.
