Advance timing?

RE: Advance timing?
In terms of your other question, I believe the gains will depend on where your timing is set now. For instance, mine was set a 6 degrees when I bought the car. Adjusting it to 14 degrees, I think I literally gained20 hp. However, if it's already at 10 degrees, I don't think you'd gain 20 hp by adjusting it to 18.. I've heard people say 2-3 hp per degree of advance. Again, I think it matters where in range you are advancing to/from.

I used to have a 91 with minor bolt ons. I started @ 18 at the track and lowered it to 10 degrees. Car ran at its best and fastest at 14 degrees timing. Anything higher or lower it did not run as good.

RE: Advance timing?
Have not had a chance to go to track yet. When i was breaking it in i had a small leak from the 2 piece rear main that turned into a gusher. I replaced the seal and still had a major leak. Took engine apart and had it machined for a one piece. The damn thing is still leaking though only a spot the size of a half-dollar now. Had a appointment for a dyno tune today and was going to test and tune tonite. But last week i lost spark while driving and found out i had sheared 5 teeth off of my MSD dizzy. So now i have to take the engine out again and drop the oil pan and hopefully find all the metal, and what caused it to break. When i got the car towed home that nite i put my finger on the cam gear and turned the motor over quite a bit and never felt anything out of whack. But i have not gotten a flash light and looked good. I rolled it into my shop and have not touched it. My 93 f-250 lost two cyl. in the same week so i am waiting on a reman. long block. I have to fix my truck before i mess with the stang. But yeah your right it will not pass tech, but they will let me run it a couple times. I have taken toys down there before and they let me run a little bit.
