Default Differential

I have a 85GT 5.0, 5 Speed, 8.8 rearend. I think the gears are 3:08. I also have a 85 F150 that I believe has a 8.8 rearend with 3:55. Will the gears from my truck work in my car? I would like to change the rearend in my truck to a 3:90 because I have 31x10.50-15 and I have lost a little pulling power. The Mustang could also benifit with a little bit of gear. I think that the 3:55 gears would still leave it with some gas mileage. Its basically stock anyway. Can anyone help with some info.
Thanks
