Anytime you turn the tires the shaft should rotate.

withthe engine off and the car in gear since your car is equipped with a traction lock rear and unless your superman you won't be able to rotate the tires while the car is in the air and in gear they may rock back and forth a little bit but the drive shaft won't move much because in gear the cars out put shaft is locked to the input shaft and so forth. i have my car on a lift right now trust me you wont me able to overcome the force of the drivetrain and engine while it's in gear

Is it an automatic tranny or a 5-speed? If it's an auto... some tranny's will let you spin the driveshaft when it is out of park. Think of an auto as a big hydraulic machine. The torque convertor spins when the motor is running. It makes hydraulic pressure..which in turn the valvebody decides which clutchpack to put pressure to and it causes that clutch to activate. If the motor is not running...there will be no hydraulic pressure present. So in turn you will be able to turn the wheels.

5speed, i am trying figure out if my rear brakes are hanging up, the cars drives fine, but after i have driven for while. I will go to back up and it makes a noise like the brakes are grabbing and not releasing. It started to make this noise after i developed a chirping noise when i let off the brakes. I was under my car trying to see if i could here that noise and that is when i noticed that wheels would turn, but not the driveshaft. I just wasnt sure if that was normal and this is what these forums are for right. To ask questions.

yes that's what they are for ....now that I see the root problem it's a lot easier to understand your problem. if you want to see if the rear shoes are grabbing check for the rotational resistance with the car in nuetral not in gear. if there is exccessive drag check the e-brake cables first and make sure they are working properly = the release and apply. if they won't apply or release cables may be rusted or adjusters rusted ...... you should be able to spin wheels in both directions while in neutral with some ease. do they spin with ease in neutral???? that is how to check for brake drag you want to eliminate the transmission from the picture... you could unbolt driveshaft to further eliminate the front half of the drivetrain.

my ebrake is currently unhooked. How easy should the wheels spin? they would only make a 1 rotation when i would put some muscle into it.
