Default going into reverse?

i just picked up my new 88 5.0 last week and it would grind when i put it into reverse, i was talking to my buddy at work who has an 89 and his does the same he said if you put it into any other gear first then into reverse it doesnt grind so i tried it and sure enough it doesnt grind does anyone know why it does that??

thanks

On my car I have to put it in 5th then yank back into reverse or it won't go in. I'm not sure why it does it but it seems to be a common problem.

revers doesnt have a synchro, so you dont put it in reverse by accident while going forward, you might try double clutching, heres a full tutorial for those of you who are oblivious

in neutral, let the clutch out, all the way, give it a little gas, depress the clutch, put it into gear, may or may not work for reverse, meant for going forward

My 95 does that. Sometimes it slides in just fine and sometimes I have to let off the clutch just a little bit. Every sn95 stang I've owned has done that. This one makes the 3rd.
