a kid at my school has a 85lx 5.0 and he said it was fuel injected and it had the original stock motor.....i always thought that ford switched to fuel injection around 89....when did they?

 

86 was the first year for efi, 89 was the first year non-cali models got mass air

 

If his mustang came factory with an automatic, then it had the lower performance 302 and throttle body fuel injection. The GT's came with 4bbl carbs and 5 speeds.
However, fuel injection started for all mustang engines in '86 like MD stated above.

 

85 automatic Gt's had the CFI (throttle body) fuel injection

Actually, in 83 the turbo 2.3L was fuel injected. But as been said 86 was the first year for GT's.

 

Yeah mines injected with the fuel.

 

I always thought it was split year in 1986.I thought it was half year carb and the other injected.I could be wrong correct me if im wrong.

85 5.0 auto was injected with a throttle body injection setup (not multi-port) and the 85 5 sp. was carbureted. The 86 gt was the first year that the 5.0 had a multi-port fuel injection setup. As far as 4 cylinders go, I'm not sure when they got injected- but who cares cause they suck
