I bought this guys 302 bored to a 307. I have beentrying to getthis thing up and running. I have it back firing threw the carb at anything under 1500. [:@]If I mash the gas down it does climb quick with no problem. I can't even get it to idle. I watch the RPMs go from 1200 then a back fire, 1000 then a back fire and so on till it dies. I have been doing this all on my own and it is getting kinda hard. Can anyone please help me out.[:@][:@]

I was told by a guy that at 3000 RPM it should be around 30. I have it so far past 30 I can't even see the number anymore. It I time it less I get a nice loud bang out of the exhaust when I shut it off.

are you sure that you have your firing order correct

I am using the 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8. I was told this is a Mexican block. And have no idea what that means!

is it a roller valve train setup or flat tappet. your firing order should be 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 going counter clockwise

What all is in the engine, what's your timing at, what jets are in the carb

I have flat tappets in there right now. So am I going to have to change the firing order now? As for the jets they are the stock ones in the holley. The carb is a 4150 style double pumper 660 cfm. I think they are 64's but really can't recall at the moment.

is it aHO or non HO becaue i put a used engine in a mustang before and it was an older truck cam and the firing order was different

I don't know when they came out with the Ho motors. It is a 79 block, what do you think?
