Default EQUAL LENGTH HEADERS HITTING

Im putting on some BBK equal length headers and they are hitting the steering shaft. I have used the "search" feature on here and everybody says the motormounts. While reading i saw a few people said to use the vert motor mounts. So I need to know should i get the ones for the hatch(which i have) or the convertible ones. Let me know im waiting so i can go get them now. Thanks, Jack

I have the equal lengths in my 91, I replaced the stock mm with the vert mm and there is plenty of clearance. I don't know if it was because of the mm or not, but that's what my car has.

Are the vert motor mounts supposed to be thicker/taller or something to provide more clearence?

vert motor mounts are about 1/2" taller, if not a tad more.

why, i couldn't tell ya. can't remember right now.

there are other options as well. the shaft itself is adjustable. undo the shaft from the inside of the car and you can slide it back and forth a good 3/4". that might bring the clearance you need.
also some people take a ballpeen hammer to the header, which i wouldn't suggest.

I think im gonna avoid the hammer and try the motor mounts first.

Yeah the motor mounts are an easy fix. Only cost like 30-40 bux (don't remember, been a few years) and takes a few min to intall.

The mounts are made different (for what reason I do not know why)

stock

and the convertable

I think that these were the type of mounts also used in all 92's and 93's. With this design, they will prolly never come apart. I know some lincoln mark 7's 5.0's used these as well.

Is the header fully installed and still hitting the steering, or are you still trying to get the header past it? My equals hit the steering shaft also but I seperated it and moved it aside. Once I actually got the header bolted up there was plenty of clearance. My motor mounts are totally shot as well, noticed it as I was installing the headers.
