just bought a 88 hatch v8 car it came w/2 trannies a wc t5 and a aod w/a 3000stall the aod is a fresh rebuild but the t5 i think is bad but any how i pulled the cover and it has a open diff so i was wondering if the only ones with the trac loc where the gt's anyhow do you think it's worth$500

well you dont have a GT, but all 87-93 5.0s came with Trac-Loc, regardless of GT or LX trim

you might have a 2.3<5.0 conversion

 

well the vin # say it's a v8 car and it is the 8.8 but it ain't a tracloc that is why i was a little confused i guess i'll get the numbers from the door jam and see if they match the gear ratio that'll give me a little idea if some one maybe did some swapping b4 they decided to sell it

 

how did you determine it wasn't a traction loc???

 

i pulled the cover off so i could count the gears on ring and pinion and there ain't no clutches in there

 

the clutches in the trac loc unit are not visible they are located inside the diff unit behind the side spyder gears which have to be removed to access the clutches.....put the car in neutral ...jack it up and grab one wheel and spin it forward and see if the opposite wheel spins forward if it does you have a trac loc rear

 

turnd wheel to count allthe teeth on the ring & pinion and i know you really can't see clutches but you can see carrier but this one is open nothing but spider gears and pin

 

and no i ain't real happy about it sort a sucks
