ah! help.
I wake up and go out to start my car, won't start. Batteries dead and the battery was just put in like 2 weeks ago. Figure maybe the alternator is bad because the car won't charge when its running, so I change the alternator car ran fine for about a week. Only put out about 9 volts at idle and when on the gas put out about 11 1/2 or 12 volts. I'm inside red robins and go out to start the car again and click click click, wouldn't start. Anybody have any input?A short somewhere maybe?Alternator was a lemon?

I have seen a bad battery cause it, but it's rare. How old is the battery. Here's a lil test for ya. Start the car, disconnect the neg side of the battery. If the alt is working, the car will stay running. If not, the car will shut off. I'm still betting on the alt or a wiring problem.

I have seen that ole trick fail ya too, if olny a couple diodes are out it may still put out enough to run the essentials (ecu, fp, sensors) but not nearly enough to also charge the battery, run the heat, a/c lights etc......if you have any doubt take it to one of the national chain auto parts stores and have them load test the alternator... .

RE: ah! help.
try checking the negative connection to the battery...mine was doing the same thing...the guy we bought it from put in a new batter but he didnt have the connection tight enough and it wasnt really connected so it would come loose after driving it or after just trying to move it...but not loose to the point where you could see it was loose, so you might just want to try tightening it
