engine complete, need help starting.
ok now i have the engine completely together, all vac lines hooked up, all electrical connection hooked up....so thats all good
so i tried starting for the first time and it wouldnt, come to find out somehow i was 3/4 off on the dizzy. so i restabbed the dizzy at the number one TDC dizzy exactly on its spot. now the car starts....but for 2 seconds. it will start and rev itself up to about 3k RPMS and then shut off. no backfires or anything, it actually sounds really healthy. i've even tried starting it and turning the dizzy to keep it alive but same symptoms.....is this "one tooth off" or do i just not have something right?
i did prime the oil pump, new plugs, cap, rotor, wires. there is obviously spark and fuel because it starts. it actually starts at the flick of the key, it doesnt have to continuously turn over, its just turns and starts right away.

RE: engine complete, need help starting.
if you had the battery disconnected for any length of time which I assume you probably did..you'll need to give the ecm a little time to relearn all of it KAM functions/ adaptive learning strategies...the KAM is the keep alive memory where all actual running values are learned and or stored like idle speed

just follow the idle relean procedure you'll have to let it learn the idle sitting still and then with all accessories on put follow the instructions in the stickys...if it ran fine before and you had the battery disconnected that's most likely the issue...you'll also have to drive it around a little because it'll have to relearn all adaptive strategies again...disconnecting the battery resets the ecm/kam

You set yours to 0 at TDC right?I believe I had the same problem you are having, I just finished my engine like a week ago and I set it on TDC and everything, but it wouldnt run right, then my friend came over and advnaced the timing to 8 and it started right up.
