You'd basically be pulling the entire engine apart. Going that far you might as well just rebuild the whole thing and put new bearings in it since you're already there. It's not hard per se, but it is a rather involved process. If you have strong mechanical skills and want to do it yourself you can get a book on engine rebuilding, there are several good ones for Fords.

^ yeah? just for your information, to be sure your diagnosing the right problem......
blueish smoke all the time is rings
low compression can be rings. can also be valves burnt / pitted / not sealing, or even a blown headgasket (which would be pretty easy to tell)
