one thing that you MIGHT be able to do cheaper then a t5 swap is to go with a manual valve body from like lentech, and a b&m hammer shifter. This would let you control your shift points from 1st, to 2nd, and YES you can hold 2nd to any rpm, then shift into OD which would be 3rd, and if you need overdrive its on an electric switch/button. Thats just my 2cents tho. I know b&m hammer shifters are really fun in aode cars, but in an aod car its really dumb to have, its more for looks then anything.

But in my opinion, its always better to sell the aod, and buy a t5 then it is to do the swap. Much cheaper, and much easier.
dont mean to be dumb..but i did my swap for 600 bucks..and it was easy..two nights work totaling 11 1/2 hours..so i really doubt i coulda found a car just like mine but 5 speed for a 600 dollar difference...it just makes me laugh when everyone says sell ur car just for a tranny...

it depends on where you live and the type of car you have. It makes me laugh when people drop 2-3k in mods into a 2-3k car they bought and then still end up only getting 2-3k for it. out where im from all the foxes go for 2-3500 and there all around the same condition. You can buy them and sell them all for around the same. And they generally all have the same things done to them also. So if you want a t5, sell the aod for whatever, and buy a t5.

OR you can do the swap. I was just giving my 2cents. I hate it everytime someone opens there mouth about an opinion. GRRR <3 lol

Well thanks for the replies... I still do not know if I want to do a few things to the AOD. So if I want a good auto what would it be a C4? or what... Still not 100% sure I want a T5.

c4s going to be your best bet unless you like the thrill of shifting

put it like this....c4 and t-5 will be close...if one stang has a c4 and one has a t-5 it would be a close race (if they r both stock)...c4's can take alot of stuff u throw at them...and u wont miss a shift ;-)...im going h/c/i and 3000-3500 stall with the juice...wanting 12's with slicks...and this is all for under 3000 dollars...so i say go c4...but u will only hav 3 gears not 4 like the aod...so your car will still be streetable but not like a t-5/aod would...and freeway driveing will suck ***** if u hav rear end gears...i bought mine from them

Out of all the auto trans that Ford makes the C4 is the strongest, C6 are strong, and AOD's the weakest. I went through 2 in my 86GT before I purchased a Tremec. I have seen it as much lately but back in the 90's Ford guy's were installing GM transmissions because they were stronger than anything than Ford put out at the time. Find a good WC/T-5 get all the parts that you need for the swap and make it happen.

So is a C4 a direct replacement or do what you have to mod?
