I NEED HELP ?
Hey, I just have a question as to see if anyone will be able to help me with my issue,...my car is an 88 5.0 lx and i currently have an e303 cam, 2500 stall, bbk shorties, bbk h pipe, msd distributor cap, mallory coil, ford blue wires, upper and lower cobra intake, sd converted to mass air flow, magnaflow bullets...automatic AOD ....when i took my car out to the track for the first time, i ran 16's... my "best" run was like a 15.97....i get good launches but my car is not fast, what do you think i should do or check as to get my numbers lower...any feed back is greatly appreciated...thanks in advance...

What's your 60' time?
What gears do you have?
Are you manually shifting or leaving it in drive?
What is your timing set at?
Does your throttle body open all the way up when the gas pedal is floored?

i need to check on the gears, but the guy i bought it from said that they put 373's i do theshifting, 1st gear, tehn drive, as soon as it kicks in to 2nd, shift back down to 1 , then up to drive again , and then to od at the very end...timing is at 14 ... that was where it ran the 15.97, i was experimenting with the timing at the track...i think that the throttle body does open all the way , ill check it later on today...

I'm not understanding your shifting method?
Will it not shift 1-2-3? How many rpm's are you trying to shift at?
Do you have a shift kit?
You should not need/use OD to get through the quarter.
Jack your car up and mark the drive shaft and a tire. With the car in neutral rotate the tire one full revolution and count how many times the drive shaft goes around.
The number of drive shaft turns are your gear ratio.
You did not answer about your 60' time?
60' means a lot.
If you are spinning you could loose a second or morerite off the line.
Do you have sticky tires?
Will it not shift 1-2-3? How many rpm's are you trying to shift at?
Do you have a shift kit?

#1 iF IT were me I'd have a 3000 stall in it and you probably don't have 3.73's probably got 3.27 gears ..only accurate way to tell is pull the diff cover and count the teeth on the ring gear and pinion gear and then divide the two numbers and there is the ratio......and if you got stock heads..then ditch them...they are holding you back!!! also what was your mph???

I thought those cars would run mid 15's stock?
you have some good mods to be running so slow I would say atleast mid to low 14's in your car unless you have some kinda really low gear like 2.70 unless the car has alot of miles on it and that motor is just tired...
did you shift everytime try just leaving it in drive and punching it to see what it will run.
did it spin of the line?
can you post up a time slip 60ft and mph

nope, its only set in the 1-d-od- ":" if i can remember right i think that i was shifting at 5500 rpm, my 1-gear only goes up to about 4500rpm then starts surging, no, no shift kit yet...i only used the od towards the end bc my car was sounding forced on drive towards the end...,about the 60' im still trying to find my racing slips, my first run tires did spin, second and third they did not...yeah, i know about the stock heads,i heargood thingsabout AFR'S but im on a budget right now, i might take off the heads of of my father in laws explorer though...I'll look for my slips and post them on as soon as i find them...

what are the first things in which to go about in checking as to see what is not functioning the way it is supposed to ? ? ? any other info i need to know in which to make it go faster with the mods i have, i know about suspention, nos, and all that other good stuff, but like minor adjustments, oh, another thing i saw yesterday after a drive, i checked the spark plugs and they had some gas not yet burnt, my father in law said that i was running rich, how would i fix that???
