Engine whine
I have alot of engine whine when i rev it up. I was wondering what could be causing the noise, I do know that my power steering makes alot of noise when I turn the wheel, could this be causing any problem? Thanks

RE: Engine whine
check the PS fluid level if it's low it'll whine;)

RE: Engine whine
Thanks for the speedy reply, I did check the fluid, and its full. Its almost the the top of the tube where the cap is. Anything else? Could it be the pump?

RE: Engine whine
how is the fluid condition?? is it all murky black and or metallic particals in the fluid????

RE: Engine whine
if the ps fluid got too low at one point you could have burned it an caused a perminate whine... if thats the case, u need a new pump..

RE: Engine whine
I would get a new one, they are fairly cheap

RE: Engine whine
the whine when you rev it up sounds like a vacuum leak or something.
but i got the same ps noise when i turn too and my fluid is brown. will be getting new pump with new fluids when i pull my motor in a month or two. |
RE: Engine whine
That would be one hell of a vacuum leak if you could hear it good with the engine revved.

RE: Engine whine
Is your car an automatic? The transmission pump would make a noise if it was on it's way out. And if it's a stick... I'd say more than likely the power steering pump. But I've had a truck that whined and after I changed the clutch it went away. Either way the power steering pump is cheaper and easier to fix:D.

RE: Engine whine
Yea its a stick..i dont think it would be a vacuum leak, cause its loud...its not a whoosh sound....its more like a vuuhhh.
