Default need some help

i have a 87 5.0 roller in my 66 mustang. i had 289 hipo heads on it with adjustable rocker and 550 springs. it was bending pushrod and beat the top of the valve stems like a mushroom. so i went to ebay and bought a set of procomp aluminum heads 202 160s 190cc and 600 lift single springs. for everyone that said these heads are junk at about 4000 rpm with the f cam this car pulls like a freight train. but when i got the heads it said to use .100 longer push rods. the car was doing good then it bent another pushrod. does anybody have a set of pro comps on a 5.0 and can tell me what lenght pushrod to run. i know that i should check push rod lenght but just tryin to get close. any help would be great. i do run this car about 6-7000 rpm thank u.

there is no such thing as trying to get close and your whole problem to begin with is you are short cutting the whole proper valvetrain geometry set up......if you don't know how to check for proper pushrod length or have the length checker than STOP!!! take it to a pro or destroy another set of heads......here is the only way to do it !!!! ready??? number one buy this!!!

then roll your motor up to tdc on #1 and collor the tip of the stem with a permanant marker then set the length checker in the hole and then set the rocker down on the stud and length checker installed on the uderside of the rocker seated in the cup and screw the poly lock down until you feel a slight drag on the push rod = 0 lash and then wiggle the tip if the roller tip to make a mark ...remove rocker and check to see where the line is...if you have the length set up right the line should be on the center 1/3 of the stem towards the back half..if it's to far back the line make the length longer and recheck.....once you have the length about right set it up/adjust to 0 lash then give poly lock 1/4 to 1/2 turmn more and lock down and rotate the motor over twice and then remove rocker and look at the total travel mark of the roller tip..if the length is correct then the total travel will be from the back of the center 1/3 to max the front center 1/3....idea is to have the roller tip directly over the center of the tip when the valve is open.....by the way to check all this you need to convert a pair of stock roller lifters to solid by removing the internal spring and placing washers in the middle to take up the space and make a solid lifter so the hydraulic portion won't collapse and skew the reading...this is the only way to do it and get the correct geometry...if you don't like it then keep adjusting your valves to tight and bending push rods cause your bottoming them out in the lifter bores......what's cheaper the right way or take a guess and ruin a motor oh and once you determine correct length you need to buy the same style push rod as is the length checker you bought
