Default Engine ID problems

I recently bought a 302 from a reputable salvage yard, i was told it was a 1985 M code 5.0 HO, but im not so sure gor the reason that it has the crappy tin can chrome valve covers on it, and came with cast iron manifolds, but it did come third hand out of a wrangler, how could i find out if it is an 85 4V HO?

look at the casting numbers on the block..I have a 85 4v h.o in my garage an I can tell you...also pulling the intake and it should have the spyder bar to retain roller lifters and a aluminum 4 barrel intake

thamks...im most worried that its a original CFI or non-Roller HO, and i cant tell what intake it had since i bought it with a performer intake manifold and a holley truck avenger carb. Did the CFI's have the same heads?

I can't remeber what my 85 cfi stang had for heads but they sucked....if it was a cfi motor..it'll be a non roller motor and casting number on the block will be different..get a casting number and I may be able to help you

the roller block uses a steel gear for the dizzy where as the non roller block will use a cast iron gear......but unless they are using the stock ignition and at this point it won't matter cause someone has been there before and no telling what parts they mixed and matched or if they even have the right dizzy gear mated to the cam

Is there any way of telling if its a HO specificly, not just a Non-HO roller block?

casting number and see if it has a roller cam...it should have a e5 casting number on the block if it's a true 85 roller block...in 87 the casting went to a e7
