Default Computer question

Hi all.

I'm having a rough time with my car (95 v6)and i need some advice/help.

My engine blew on me on christmas, i've taken it down to a shop and he has told me it's done and that i need a new engine in it. So i asked him about swapping in my old 86GT v8 i can get for 500$ posibly less. he told me it wouldn't be worth it cuz you'd have to swap the computer components and the only time you'd wanna do something like that is if you plan on supping the car up and giving it a nice paint job. Now he started quoting us prices for what it could cost to put in another v6 after only having it for like 20 mins.

He told us it's gonna be probably atleast 2 grand or more. He was gonna look for a v6 engine from the junk yard. he was saying he think it'd be around 800-900$ for another v6 which i thought was really high considering i could get the v8 back for 500$. i started to think he'd probably charge more for finding it too. So my questions are:

1. How hard is it to swap the EEC that i'd try to get from the 86 into the 95. would it be adding much more onto my bill? (that he's quoting around 2000$)

2. besides the engine and EEC, what else would i need to get from the other car?

3. does anyone have any experience on something similar to this?

4. What does everyone think of doing this swap?

I personally don't wanna put another v6 into it i'd rather spend money then have a car i'd keep and work on as i get old for something to do. Putting another v6 into to me is not worth the money for just another small gutless engine. but my mom won't let me just leave it alone for now and do what i want later..... it's gotta be done now.... sorry for the long post and if anyone could give some advice i'd be happy. thanks in advance

honestly what he is charging you is not all that bad..it's industry standard and I think he's a little on the low side but hey labor rate differs from area to area.....and he's right about it not being worth swapping in 86 stuff..for one it's speed density and you'd have to wire in everything...change your cluster cause your cluster is electronic vs mechanical on an 86... if you got abs then that won't work and the list goes on!!! the correct and alot easier swap but still time consuming would be a sn-95 v-8 conversion and I believe the 6 cyl k-member is diff than the 5.0 so i'd have to be swapped too.....so to make a long story short....LISTEN TO YOUR MECHANIC.....fixing your busted ace ride will be alot cheaper than to convert it.....unless of course you have a sn-95 5.0 donar car and the technical know how to do it
